About Seasons: Background

“From whimsical to elegant” is how a recent customer described the artwork she discovered at SEASONS on St. Croix, Gallery & Gifts. Gallery owner, Ruth Misenko said, "I was thrilled with this description as she captured the essence of our eclectic gallery." Seasons on St. Croix opened in the fall of 2000 with a vision to promote the original fine art and contemporary craft, predominantly created by local and regional artists, in a welcoming retail environment. Ruth collaborated with a local glass blower, who was able to locate his studio, Casanova Glass Studio, adjacent to the gallery space so that people could see, learn and experience the process. Since then a clay studio, Christensen Clay Studio, has also been added. These collaborations have allowed Seasons on St. Croix to transform a 1947 Ford car dealership, now bright red with blueberry trim, into a wonderful art experience. The gallery brims with the fine art and craft of not only our resident artists, but that of 130 other creative souls.

Ruth and her vision is inspired by the creative process. "I admire the committed, imaginative, original, skillful and determined efforts of individual artists. They and their work have inspired me to create…in my case, a vital, dynamic, artful, invitational and intentional space in which to draw the admirer and the artist together. It doesn’t get much better than that. On a daily basis, I am motivated by customers who express their delight, interest and appreciation, by the joy of a young artist for whom I have helped sell an exceptional piece of work, by my staff who has endless ideas and energy to enhance the endeavor and by the challenges of running a business. I am motivated by the opportunity to transform a tired old building into a magical place that draws people together, and allows them to enjoy art in a nurturing environment."
